Spectacles Recycling

 Lions Clubs, throughout the World, Recycle Spectacles which are cleaned, re-furbished and distributed to Countries were the vast population cannot afford a pair of Spectacles?.

Just imagine how something that we might discard, could change the life of someone who cannot see clearly, simply because they cannot afford a pair of Spectacles.

Perhaps it will help them to move around freely, see their family more clearly,  be able to do some sort of work, be less dependant on others etc.  

 How would you cope without your Spectacles?

Once a year, all Spectacles collected by the Lions Clubs in Dorset, Hampshire parts of Wiltshire and Berkshire are picked up by Petersfield Lions and taken to our Distribution depot.

We call this SPECTREK day, as it is a Trek for them to all around our area to pick up the Spectacles! 

The picture below shows the boxes of Spectacles which Wimborne & Ferndown Lions Club, and 6 other Clubs in our area,  had collected over the year, ready to be picked up.

Wimborne & Ferndown Lions Club had collected 3,700 pairs of Spectacles and, combined with the other local Lions Clubs, we had amassed some 22,000 pairs over the year.

So, the next time you want to get rid of Spectacles, or Hearing Aids, don't put them in your Bin,

put them in one of ours!.
